You changing this from the cli or the gui? That should work fine.

hi, i tried both gui and cli but having the same message. and i couldnt change it

the version im using is 8.10.112.0.

Post the output from the cli and configure the hostname with a different name

ok seems like the wlc doesnt want an underscore.... i tried below and it accepted the TESTNAME. but weirdly the hostname configured during the initial configuration has an underscore on it.

(Cisco Controller) >config sysname DC1_01A_WLC1

Hostname is not compliant to RFC !.
Hostname can contain max of 24 characters namely Upper/lowercase letters, numbers, dot, hyphen.
Hostname should always start with an alphabet and should not end with '.' or '-'.

(Cisco Controller) >config sysname TESTNAME
Warning! System name change will disrupt the existing RF Grouping.
(Cisco Controller) >show sysinfo

ok seems this image doesnt accept underscores. initial setup hostname has underscore but not upgraded yet to 8.10.112

The screenshot posted specifically states "Hostnames can contain max of 24 characters namely upper/lowercase letters, numbers, dot and hyphen".
Nowhere does it state that underscores are allowed/accepted.

and why there is this restriction on this new firmware? who ever doing the wlc os programming should just leave the hostname modification alone. its just a hostname. we did ap priming for 9aps already, what if we did that for 100 of aps, that will be pain in the arse to redo it.

Well that is a feature request you can bring up to Cisco. As far as priming AP’s, you can automate that or build a script to easily change that.

Yeah... it does state what is allowed and what isn’t. Use a dash ‘-‘ if you really need a delimiter.
