IP Address on Wireless AP

Rolitto

Hello everyone,

I am configuring a Cisco wireless AP and the IP address used to access the device is, let's say 192.168.1.1. I know that this wireless AP is a layer 2 device and that this IP address is used to access and manage the device, but my question is:

How is it possible to access the web-based setup page of this device (http://192.168.1.1) via either the wireless interface or Ethernet interface? Does it mean these two interfaces are bridged?

The reason why I am asking is because as far as I know, the IP address assigned by default to a wireless AP is similar to an IP address we assign to a switch when we want to trace and manage it on a network or VLAN, which is interface-VLAN x or SVI x in this case. Am I right or is there anything I am missing here?

Any clarification is appreciated and I would love to hear your opinions as well on this matter, thanks.

@Rolitto Hello

Look it:

"

Before You Start

Before you install the wireless device, make sure you are using a computer connected to the same network as the wireless device, and obtain the following information from your network administrator:

  • A system name for the wireless device
  • The case-sensitive wireless service set identifier (SSID) for your radio network
  • If not connected to a DHCP server, a unique IP address for the wireless device (such as 172.17.255.115)
  • If the wireless device is not on the same subnet as your PC, a default gateway address and subnet mask
  • A Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) community name and the SNMP file attribute (if SNMP is in use)
  • If you use IPSU to find the wireless device IP address, the access point MAC address. The MAC address can be found on the label on the bottom of the access point (such as 00164625854c)."

But this can be changed according ap's model.

 - Well if you need to still configure it , there will be no valid wireless configuration , including SSID's and functional radio's, so you are limited to access via Ethernet.
