iphone wireless assist, WLC3504, 1832i... bad connections

I have a wireless network that works perfectly for normal laptop and tablet wireless. It authenticates to a RADIUS server, routes traffic properly, etc. I have found that the wireless assist feature on iphones is extremely problematic. Does anyone know what settings I should look at or areas that might help? Is this a FT issue, or perhaps QOS? Should I break out a separate SSID for iphones? Signal strength is generally good- the weakest spot in the building is 57db, but the area where I am noticing the problem is right next to a WAP, so I think there is a configuration setting I need to tweak. I know it is the wireless with the iPhone because if I am on a call, I have serious quality issues, but if I disconnect from the Cisco WLC (so the phone is using cell towers) the quality instantly becomes crystal clear. Can anyone point me at some settings or some area of relevance that might help solve the issue?

I appreciate the help!
