Is it possible to change AP name offline?

Hi I prepare AP to get it joined to WLC. but I noticed i can change ip address, default gateway etc but i cannot change the AP name unless it join WLC. Can we change AP name offline? Thank you

Hi @wfqk 

No, Its not possible to change the AP hostname via WLC, when its not joined to the controller.

For offline APs you can change the hostname through its console using the command capwap ap hostname <AP Name>

Or Once its joined to controller you can use the commands config ap name <new AP name> <Previous Name or Ethernet MAC address>.

Actually what i mean is if we can change its name by console using command capwap ap hostname <AP Name>

but i tried it many times, this command cannot work.

Hope you are running this command on Enable mode.

Sample output:

login as: admin
admin@xx.yy.xz.yz's password:
AP01>en
Password:
AP01#capwap ap hostname TESTAP
Please note that if AP is already associated to WLC,
the new hostname will only reflect on WLC after AP
dis-associates and rejoins.
