hi,

we are doing a new installation with about 70 APs, access points are Cisco 3602, and WLC is 5508.

we are facing an issues which is APs are not tacking ip address from DHCP server which is Cisco 6500, Cisco IOS DHCP server.

DHCP Service is working for as i checked it my laptop connected to AP port and its working fine.

i changed AP image to latest version ( the current image is look like Mesh Image) but it did not worked, finally i assign static ip address at converted ap and it worked.

attached logs please help me to solve this.

thanks,

No logs attached...

sorry file type was not txt...now attached

Yes, it looks like you got AP with mesh image. Still it should get an IP.

Anyway try below on  another 3602 (via console) you got & see if that helps to convert to local mode & then register to WLC.

  1. debug capwap console cli
  2. test mesh mode local

Good morning,

Taking a look at the logs attached I see this message multiple times:

*Jul  1 11:23:59.755: DHCP: Scan: Renewal time larger than Rebind time
*Jul  1 11:23:59.755: DHCP: Error in pkt. punting

Then it starts again trying to get an IP:

*Jul  1 11:24:03.095: DHCP: Received a BOOTREP pkt Not for us..:  xid: 0x183
*Jul  1 11:24:03.211: DHCP: SDiscover attempt # 2 for entry:

And it goes on and on:

*Jul  1 11:24:03.211: DHCP: Scan: Vendor specific option 43: F104AC14640F
*Jul  1 11:24:03.211: DHCP: Scan: Renewal time larger than Rebind time
*Jul  1 11:24:03.211: DHCP: Error in pkt. punting
*Jul  1 11:24:07.211: DHCP: SDiscover attempt # 3 for entry:

If you put a regular laptop to the port where the AP is suppose to be connected, is that laptop able to get an IP from the respective vlan on that switchport?

Yes,  i connected my laptop to same cable and it is able to get ip address, here actually DHCP server offers ip address to Access Point as we confirmed the offers at DHCP bindings.

but access points are not accepting it,

I came across this info but I am not sure if you may have any option int that dhcp that could impact the way this APs are trying to get ip:

https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCsx94354/?referring_site=ss

Do you have any option in that pool in addition to 43?

hi,

today we connected APs to same vlan were controller is, and they are getting ip address and joining wlc by adding their mac to local mac filtering, but when we moved ap to another vlan they are not accepting ip address offer, and not joining wlc.

is there any communication happening between ap and wlc before ap getting ip address ?  also how can i confirm wlc is working on Layer-3 mode ?

thanks,

anvar
