Mixed architecture with 5508

Hello,

I have a converged access architecture with 5508 like MC and 3850 like MA. Currently in the main site, the access point are registered on each 3850.

For my remote site, i don't have cisco 3850, and i want to use FlexConnect towards my 5508. So the remote AP will register to 5508. is it possible ?

Can my cisco 5508 support mixed architecture ?

  • Converged access for main site,
  • Classic architecture, for remote site.

Thanks in advance,

Sylvain.

Keep in mind from 8.1 onward MC functionality support in AireOS for 3850/3650MA  going to be dropped.

  • With Release 8.1 in a New Mobility environment, Cisco WLCs running Cisco Wireless software cannot function as mobility controllers (MC). However, the Cisco WLCs can function as guest anchors.

Therefore it is advisable to not to have a AireOS controller as MC for your converged access setup.

Hi Sylvian,

The 5508 as MC will support your scenario. The SSID configured on the 5508 will need to be marked as a flexconnect SSID under the Advanced configuration tab.

Hope this helps.

Hello Rasika,

but i'm on 8.0.100.0, so i can use this mixed architecture, if i understand well,

Thanks

Yes, it is supported in 8.0 code.

I would suggest you to move onto 8.0MR3 release for more stable/bug fix code on 8.0.x train. Here is the release note for that
