Might look "pretty" when done at home but plain stupid if this was enabled in the enterprise.

In an enterprise deployment, the less SSID an AP broadcasts the better.  More SSIDs being broadcasted by each AP equals high overhead transmission which then translate to lower performance of the WLAN as a whole.  Read this:  SSID Overhead Calculator

At the end of the day the wireless client picks and choose which AP to join.  There are times when we see people who want to have the same SSID:  One broadcasted in 2.4 Ghz and one in 5.0 Ghz.

We try our best to dissuade this sort of practice because WLAN NIC do not really know how to pick which of the two SSID to chose from.  If the WLAN NIC has updated drivers and there is only one SSID being broadcasted for both 2.4 Ghz and 5.0 Ghz, the wireless client will not only home in to the SSID but "flip" to either 2.4 Ghz or 5.0 Ghz automatically.

If there is one SSID for 2.4 Ghz and another for 5.0 Ghz, the wireless client may not know which one to choose.  If you want good customer experience, this option is really, really bad.

Recommended best practice is to have one SSID only in 2.4 Ghz AND 5.0 Ghz.

Hi Leo,

Thanks for the reply

I have a scenario my setup is intranet setup with no internet over the end devices (TV's and Tablets).

As TV's only serve 2.4 they have interference issue and application is not functioning properly.

And also seen latency in few tablets which have dual band.

Can you please suggest on this.

Is mDNS enabled?

Yes it's enabled

So what other info can you offer?

  1. Is the AP autonomous/ME or controller-based?
  2. What firmware is it working on?
  3. Have you tried OPEN SSID?
  4. Can you show us the debug of the client when it attempts to cast to the said TV?
  5. What error message(s) appear?
  6. What sort of problem?
