Try to upgrade in ROMMON, but first wait for ~10 minutes to see if it stays stable:

Any newer release (I recommend 8.5.151.0) should fix the issue. Alternatively open an RMA, I'm pretty sure this is a warranty reason.

Hi,

I don't know which part of the solution is accepted, but I'm facing the same problem with AIR-AP1832I-E-K9. The first part with the upgrade (currently on 8.5.161.0) doesn't work and the problem remains.

The second part of the solution (open RMA) works, but I got tired after 30-40 RMAs.

Does anyone knows what's causing the problem? Is there a solution other than replacing the malfunctioning devices under warranty (our warranty soon will expire)?

Thanks

The accesspoints have a "lifetime" hardware warranty, so for 10 years after buying it you can RMA them.

Thanks for your answer patoberli. I didn't know that they come with lifetime warranty, and now I'm a bit relaxed.

However, this isn't a solution for the problem I have. At the moment I have 6 access points with this problem, all mounted in different buildings, some of them are pretty high (4-5 meters, 12-15 feet). This 6 APs stopped working during the last 2 months (while the University where I work is under lockdown). Since we installed them (almost 3 years ago), we had this problem with more then half of the APs (we have 50 APs). So, up until now I had to replace roughly 30 APs.

I was wondering if someone has idea what is causing this problem, and if there's a workaround. Currently I'm running APs in CAPWAP with Virtual WLC 8.9.100, but I had problems with all the previous versions I tried and also with the Mobility Express installations. The APs are connected to Cisco Catalysts (3560, 2960, 2960x) ports, some of them are PoE, some PoE+, and some are connected with power adapters. Most of the APs are connected to gigabit ports, but unfortunately, some APs are connected to 100 Mbps ports. There's no obvious common reason for the failures.

Thanks

I fear you might have a bad hardware batch. I suggest to open a new TAC and see if Cisco has to say something. I couldn't find a field notice for this problem, but maybe they have some internally known bugs. It's absolutely not typical to happen.
Regarding software, downgrade to the latest 8.8 or upgrade to 8.10, 8.9 will not receive any further updates. I suggest 8.8.130.0 or even 8.5.164.0 for stability.

Thanks @patoberli, it's exactly what I was suspecting. I'm going to open a TAC case.

Hi Jordan,
Hope all is well.
How did this go? Any update from Cisco on this matter.

I haven't open TAC case yet. I'll post any updates once I open the case.

Hello Jordan,

Thank you for the great feedback. This would really help some of us having same issue.
