Hello Experts,

What will be the Significance of AP group when an AP is already moved to an FlexConnect group?

When an Access Point is moved to a FlexConnect Group, it still continues to get reflected in the AP group. Why is that the case?

AP Groups & FlexConnect Groups is for achieve different requirements, shown below

AP Groups is a logical concept of grouping AP’s which deliver similar Wi-Fi services; these services can be:
– By physical location, and/or
– By functional services (data, voice, guest, …)

AP groups give the ability to statically map Wi-Fi service (WLAN) to VLAN based on physical location
 Users see the same Wi-Fi service on all sites.
 Admin can monitor and filter based on different IP@ each site
 Can also be used to have smaller Wi-Fi subnets
   - For example per floor subnets in a building.

FlexConnect groups allow sharing of:
 CCKM/OKC fast roaming keys
 Local/backup RADIUS servers IP/keys
 Local user authentication
 Local EAP authentication
 AAA-Override for Local Switching
 Smart Image Upgrade

So whenever there's a requirement of FlexConnect APs, along with the creation of FlexConnect Groups it would make more sense to have corresponding AP groups, both carrying same setup of APs but leads to have extended flexibility in configuration? However the creation of AP groups is not mandatory though?

FlexConnect Groups can then apply the APs with unique set of configurations which are possible through FlexConnect Groups.

WLANs which are part of the AP Groups but none of the FlexConnect Groups are basically the local mode WLAN (Centrally Switched and Centrally authenticated)?
