Simulating DFS event

Hi.

I'm trying to research the following command:

debug dot11 d1 dfs simulate

Does anyone know if simulates a DFS event on an AP or does it more "emulate" a radar and send out a little RF pulse from an AP to neighbouring APs?

I'm looking for a way to do the latter to test/validate how my APs might behaviour. I do have some Cisco kit but I'm more wanting to use it to test non-Cisco equipment.

Thanks.

This depends on the country and regulations about what you are allowed to do and what not.
If you are a little experimental, use a software radio module and maybe an Arduino and with it you could create a pulse on 5 GHz. You could also try to buy a Radar device operating in the 5 GHz range, for example for a boat. Not sure if they are sold in your country though.

In any case, the DFS behavior is the following:
- AP detects a non-Wifi signal on his DFS channel
- radio will be shut down immediately for 60 seconds
- clients must roam to a different radio/AP, or will be offline
- AP will search for new channel and blacklist the previous for 30 or 60 minutes (depending on the configuration)
- radio will come back up on the new channel
I hope I haven't forgotten anything :)

@patoberli So is this a no that command won't make an AP send a DFS pulse or you don't actually know?

I don't know the command and don't know what it exactly does.
