vWLC support for 802.11ac Radio Module

caduet

i have tried to search everywhere without been able to get a real answer, does the vWLC (Cisco Virtual Wireless Controller) support the 802.11ac Radio Module installed on the 3600 and 3700 Cisco AP´s ?

i can see the M module mentioned on the compatibility Matrix but not the 802.11ac Radio Module. Can someone tell me if the 802.11ac Radio Module can be used on the 3600 and 3700 AP´s of they are been controlled with the vWLC (Cisco Virtual Wireless Controller) ?

Thanks

802.11ac support is tied to the access point and the compatibility with code version on the WLC/vWLC. SO as long as you have 802.11ac access points and the proper supported WLC/vWLC code, 802.11ac will be available.

check the 3600 and 3700 Cisco AP´s datasheet.

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

Yes, thank you both for the replies, i was just confused because on the Cisco Compatibility Matrix the AC module is not mentioned at all:

8.5.140.0

15.3(3)JF9

Lightweight APs: 1600, 1700, 1800i, 1810 OEAP, 1810W, 1815i, 1815m, 1815t, 1815w, 1830, 1850, 2600, 2700, 2800, 3500e, 3500i, 3500p, 3600e, 3600i, 3600p, 3702e, 3702i, 3702p, 3800, 700, 700W, AP802, AP803, Integrated Access Point on Cisco 1100 ISR, ASA5506W-AP702

Outdoor and Industrial APs: 1532E, 1532I, 1540, 1552E, 1552H, 1552I, 1552C, 1552EU, 1552CU, 1552S, 1560, 1570, and IW3700

Note The Cisco Aironet 1550 Series APs with 64-MB memory are not supported.

Modules: AIR-RM3010L-x-K9 and AIR-RM3000M

But i am sure that if you guys say that a 3600 series AP with the AC module installed using the firmware 15.3(3)JF9 and using the vWLC controller version 8.5.140.0 will enable the use of the AC module for the AC clients, your word is good enough for me. i was just confused because as i mentioned before the module is not mentioned on the Cisco table.

Thanks a million

I haven't ran it using a vWLC, but can confirm that I have used the module on 8.x code versions with no issues.

The module data sheet calls out:

Cisco Unified Wireless Network Software Release 7.5 or later

You will not need the 802.11ac module on the 3700 AP as it has ac built in.

As already mentioned you need to make sure you are running the software version required for the module on the vWLC.

Make sure you really tighten the module screws, as I have had issues where if not tightened enough the APs crash constantly.

To enable 802.11ac make sure its enabled globally on the WLC as well.

These modules will show as a separate radio when you go into the AP, or just as the 802.11a radio

Use 8.5.135.0.

Thanks Leo, the APs have the 15.3(3)JF9 firmware so i think i will go with the 8.5.140.0 vWLC controller version taking in consideration the Cisco compatibility Matrix. Thank you for your recommendation
