Why can I set the interface for a Wlan in 2 separate places on WLC

On a 5520 WLC

when i create a wlan, i have to assign it to an interface.

when i create an AP group, then add a wlan to it, I have the ability to assign an interface here was well.  the note on it reads below, but doesn't really apply since i am no using FlexConnect for anything.

So why can I do this?  What happens if they are set to different interfaces (not really sure I want to test)?  I cannot find any documentation on this.

Interface assign under "AP Group" will take precedence. In that way you can override WLAN map interface to different interfaces based on AP Group.
