With Cisco DNA fast approaching Im wondering if there will be a day where cisco forces everyone to go down the meraki
route and do away with a wireless controller altogether. What do you guys think?

I am not convinced myself that it will be. We deal with both Cisco and Meraki deployments and both have a good fit for specific customers.
The traditional wireless LAN controller offers a lot of flexibility, we have a number of customers who would be lost without tunnelling capabilities of the WLC's.

From my point of view WLC gives you the possibility to do many tuning on radio part, I think that it could be a good option in an enterprise network where you need to connect on wifi also IoT devices.
Meraki is more easy to deploy in office environment and it gives an easy way to scale in a large size deployment in a second.
