Wireless Controller 3504

Kindly I am designing for customer with wireless controller 3504 and 30 Access Points of Model AIR-AP3802I-I-K9.

The customer has infrastructure switching using switches POE other than cisco switches (all switches are HP).

Please need help to check if there is any constrains of using LWAPP protocol through HP switches?

Is there any recommendation for specific protocols needed in the switching layer to allow the communication between the controller &  APs?

Thank You

Sally

Hi @sallyonsy

Not really same protocolos and port are use on HP switches UDP 5246 and 5247, for a straight implementatión be sure that APs and the WLC are on the same subnet.

Hi,

In the path between AP and WLC, switches will switch the LWAPP/CAPWAP packets (they care about layer 2 destination MAC address), routers will route the LWAPP/CAPWAP packets (they care about layer 3 destination MAC address). So what can break the connectivity is a layer 3 device (router/firewall) doing some packet filtering or NAT, or an inspection device (inline) performing some layer 7 inspection or decryption.

So if you have just switches and basic touring, i don't see a problem.

Regards,

Cristian Matei.

If switches are POE (IEEE802.3af), then you will face issue as 3802 AP require PoE+(IEEE802.3at)

For CAPWAP, you only require simple IP connectivity from AP to WLC, that's all

Do the HP switches support CDP or LLDP?
How much power can each port of the switch support? If it can't support 30.0w PoE (per port) then don't bother.
