Wireless controller not giving handing out DHCP to some devices

Hi,

Can anyone help with this issue?

Unsuccessful in obtaining IP on -

  • Windows Phone 7.10.8773.98 on Nokia Lumia 610
  • EMUI 9.1.0 on Huawei
  • Android 6.0.1 HTC Desire 825

Successful in obtaining IP on -

  • iPhone 6 ios 12.3.1
  • Samsung Galaxy XCover 4 – Android 8.1.0

No changes have been made as far as I'm aware. Running firmware 8.5.120.0 on AIR-CTVM-K9

Thanks.

William

Re: Wireless controller not giving handing out DHCP to some devices

Could also be the DHCP server. Can you do a pcap on it and set a filter for the client mac-address (if it's to much traffic)?
Does it affect all types of APs or only some specific AP model?
Can you run on the WLC a "debug client [mac address of client]" and post the output here of a non-working client?

For security and stability reasons you should also upgrade the WLC to 8.5.151.0.

Re: Wireless controller not giving handing out DHCP to some devices

Thank you for the reply.

I'll run the pcap later today.

Affects all APs and we are only using the following models -

  • AIR-AP1852I-E-K9
  • AIR-CAP1602I-E-K9

Client debug attached.

My guess is that your DHCP server isn't providing an IP address.

Is the VLAN and the IP addresses of the DHCP server correct?

Re: Wireless controller not giving handing out DHCP to some devices

Hi

Use below to see what DHCP messages are being exchanged -

debug dhcp message enable
debug dhcp packet enable

Take a capture on the DHCP server.

Filter for client mac -

dhcp.hw.mac_addr == <mac-address>

bootp.hw.mac_addr == <mac-address>

Take a capture on the WLC.
