WLC 5508 automatically restarting twice in a week

Hi,

I have very strange issue with my wireless Lan controller. It reboots automatically.

Atleast in week, it restarts once or twice.

If i want to check any historical logs , i can not check since after restarting WLC , all logs will be cleared,

I get the logs from the time it restarts , starting with

COLD STARTS :

I am predicting the issue with temperature setting

right now the Internal temperature is +41 C

How do i check , what is the threshold set for temperature.

can anybody  suggest me anything about this ?

  Cisco Controller  Product Version: 8.0.110.0

Kindly suggest how to resolve this issue

This is nothing.

Can you post the output to the command "sh sysinfo"?

When the restart happens, do you have a time?  Have you checked the source of your power?

Leo@ Yes  i checked but  the power issue is not there.

 "sh sysinfo"

If this was a hardware/software issue, the message would be different.

Can you ensure the power supply and the power cord are secure?  Here's a nice thing to try:  Power up the WLC with a different power source, like UPS or from a different power feed, and see if the WLC still resets.

LEo@ WLC is not reachable ,there is no power issue

currently  WLC is connected to switch, but the switch interface is showing up, neighbourship is showing none.   unable to reach wlc via web and telnet.

if i connect wlc to other power  source or  manual reboot its will be start working fine.is there anyway to find out issue.

Go to Management > Tech Support > Controller Crash.

What information do you have there?

its only shows that

***** End of Crash File dump *****

Ok, this means the WLC didn't "crash".

Use this thread and raise a TAC Case.  You could be potentially be looking at a faulty/failing PS or the appliance needs to be checked out.

Good Day Guys,

I am currently experiencing the same problem with my 5508, it reboots randomly and I have already upgraded the IOS to 8.2.151 and it still persists. We have changed power feeds as the reason returned for the reload was power. We are now going to RMA the device as we currently have over 3000 users.

Has anybody found a fix to their issue?

Thanks

Sandesh,

This is a very, very old thread.

Can you please create a new thread?

Our fix appeared to be a bad power supply. We took one of them out and have not had the issue any longer.

You should move into another version, we have been running 8.3.112.0 and no issues at all but we recently found we are hitting a RRM/DCA bug so we are expecting to install very soon 8.3.121.0 which has the fix. We have more than 80K users on 12+ WLC's.

BTW, I forgot to mention that 8.3.x.x does not work properly using IE for GUI Access/Mgmt

What version of iOS were on you previously? A few weeks back we were on 7.6.120, upgraded to 8.0.110 and eventually went down to 7.6.130 after seeing controller instability. We opened a TAC case on it, ran some console monitoring, but were never able to grab crash details on the 8.0.110 branch.

Since running 7.6.130 we have been solid.

LEO@ let me observe and update you.

after sysinfo

Also Be concern regarding the cooling system your using for the WLC ,because this behaviors normally occur because of overheating.
