WLC on multiple Mobility Express APs ip address question

Hello,

When you have multiple 2802 APs in Mobility Express mode, should their WLC ip addresses be different?

I can have 192.168.10.10 for one of the ME APs WLC ip address, and 192.168.10.20 for another one, and point them both at wlc.domain.local, but should I?

Oh, and if I have several, say four APs. Should I have them all be ME, or 2 ME 2 CAPWAP?

Have a look here:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/technotes/8-8/b_cisco_mobility_express_8_8/b_cisco_mobility_express_8_8_chapter_01001.html

Regarding the configuration, yes, you only configure the master and all others will get the same configuration automatically.

Have them all with the ME image. Simply designate one as Master and maybe one or two as backup. The rest will then simply connect to the Master while booting.
As long as all APs are in the same VLAN, they will find the Master by broadcast, no need for a DNS entry.

How do I designate one as master/backup? I don't remember anything like that in the web menu.

And if I just configure one, and then connect other APs, do they all get the the same config (and config changes) from the Master?

Re: WLC on multiple Mobility Express APs ip address question

I tried upgrading the controller from 8.5.135 to 8.8.111, but none of the APs got their Mobility Express configs from the master.

I even factory reset one of them, it joined the controller fine, but when I forced it to become a controller in went on to load with the default network and prompted me to configure it.

"Efficient Join" doesn't seem to work for me.

Your TFTP server is working correctly? Do you see anything in the TFTP Log when an AP boots and tries to get the image?
What error message appears on the AP while booting?

I suggest you upgrade to 8.8.120.0. Here the release notes: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/access_point/mob_exp/88/release_notes/b_ME_RN_88.html
