Resolution

The firmware for 4100 series Wireless LAN (WLAN) controller can be used on the 4000 series WLAN controller.

For information on the upgrade process of a WLAN controller, refer to Wireless LAN Controller (WLC) Software Upgrade

Further reference is the The Upgrade Process section of Release Notes for Cisco Wireless LAN Controller and Cisco Lightweight Access Point, Release 3.1.105.0.

Note: WLAN controllers can be upgraded from one operating system release to another. However, if you require a downgrade from one release to another, you may be unable to use the later release configuration (CSCsb79383).

For a workaround, reload the previous WLAN controller configuration files saved on the backup server. As an alternative, reconfigure the WLAN controller.

For more information on new features, refer to Cisco Unified Wireless Network Software Release 3.1.

For additional information, refer to the Upgrade Process Overview section of Upgrading Autonomous Cisco Aironet Access Points to Lightweight Mode.
