    Introduction

Resetting to the Default Configuration If you forget the password that allows you to configure the access point, you may need to completely reset the configuration. You can use the MODE button on the access point or the web-browser interface.

Note The following steps reset all configuration settings to factory defaults, including passwords, WEP keys, the IP address, and the SSID.

    Method 1

(this is even applicable to the autonomous APs)

    Click on Start->Programs->Accessories->Communications->HyperTerminal->

    • Under the Connection Description Box, type any name.
    • Under the Connect To, Box, set Connect Using to COM1(or as the case may b
    • Under COM1 Properties Box, click on Restore Defaults.
    • Under the same Box, set FlowControl to Xon / Xoff.
    • Click Apply. Click O.K.
    • You should get the prompt, like ' > '
    • Unplug the power cable from the AP
    • Press and hold the Mode button from the back of the AP.
    • While holding the Mode button, put the power cable again into the AP.
    • Keep the Mode button, pressed on the AP, unless you do not see a message on the Hypter Terminal screen, something like , "Waiting for the button to be
    • released"
    • Release the Mode button, when you see that message on the HyperTerminal screen.

    Method 2

At the password prompt, we should be able to login with the default password: Cisco

Now we can check the contents of flash and should be something like:

    (sample output):

    show flash:
    2 -rwx 201 Mar 1 2002 00:01:37 +00:00 env_vars
    15 drwx 128 Mar 1 2002 00:03:08 +00:00 c1250-rcvk9w8-mx
If we see some extra files, we can remove them by using the following command:
    delete /force /recursive flash:/ <filename>

Step 1: Disconnect power (the power jack for external power or the Ethernet cable for in-line power) from the access point.
Step 2: Press and hold the MODE button while you reconnect power to the access point.
Step 3: Hold the MODE button until the Status LED turns amber (approximately 10 to 12 seconds), and release the Button. All access point settings return to factory defaults.
