The "Changes cannot be made until a network connection to the WLSE is re-established" error message appears when attempts are made to access the Location Manager on the WLSE from the GUI

Core Issue

This issue is most likely due to an improper upgrade, specifically when the Wireless LAN Solution Engne (WLSE) is upgraded from 2.9 to 2.11, but the appropriate patch is not applied.

A certificate error message can also appear in the Sun Microsystems Java Console upon failure. This error message can read:

LocalData:getDbIf - lookup database service interface, java.io.IOException: Server returned HTTP response code: 500 for URL:

Resolution

When this issue occurs, ensure these events are properly handled:

• The hostname of the certificate must exactly match the hostname used to access the device.

• Pop-up blockers must be disabled.

• The WLSE requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 and Java Plug-in 1.4.2 or later.

• An upgrade must not be done without its correspondent patch.

The hostname of the certificate must exactly match the hostname used to access the device. For example, if http://wlse.cisco.com is used in order to access the device, the hostname of the certificate must also be wlse.cisco.com. If wlse only is used in order to access the device in this instance, the error message appears.

Pop-up blockers must be disabled. Disable all popup blockers.

The WLSE requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 and Java Plug-in 1.4.2 or later. The Location Manager 2.9 requires the Java Plug-in and does not work without the correct Java Plug-in version. In order to achieve this, complete these steps:

1. Log into the WLSE and click Location Manager on the Main Menu.

2. Open the Java Console in a separate window.

3. Leave the Java Console window open, and choose Location Manager > Launch in the WLSE window.

4. Check the Java Plug-in version and look for errors in the Java Console window.

5. If the Java Plug-in version is not 1.4.2 or later, uninstall all plug-ins with the Microsoft Windows Add/Remove Programs feature, and install 1.4.2.

If the Java Plug-in installation does not help, reinitialize the database with the reinitdb command. This command erases all information in the database, stops and restarts system services, and reboots the WLSE.

Note: This command resets the WLSE back to default settings. It erases the configuration.
