Hi Guys,

I just installed ACS 5.1 using its ISO file in my VM Ware Player.

The installations looks good from beginning... and up till now I think the installation process is finish.

But I still not able to use https://<vmware player ip address>

What is the problem?

I ping my VMware player success.

Totardo: i think i got your problem.

What OS u chose when you created the VM? You recreate a VM and choose ( I will install the operating system later).

Do not choose other options because other options will detect the OS automatically and capture some information from you for unattended installation. This does not work with the ACS installation.

Try again, set the VM parameters manually and you'll get the wizard successfully this time.

Here is what you need to do using VM Player

You can run a minimum of 60.0 GB

Choose the ISO file you want to install

Choose #1

The VM will finish the install and reboot

Type setup and enjoy!

What is the network settings that you use for the Network adapter on the VM machine?
use bridge mode. That should work.

I suppose you try to https to the ACS from the host machine. If from different machine please explain the topology.

You need to still configure ACS. From vm player, you should see the console in which you can issue a show run. If you don't see a console, then the install didn't work.

Yes Scott. But I think when Totardo said he can ping the VM then that means the connectivity is OK and the IP address is assigned correctly to the VM.

Well he mentioned he can ping his vm player, which to me is the pc that is running vm player:) who knows:)

He should ping from the ACS CLI to the default gateway or he can issue a show

application ACS status (I think that is the command) to see if the service is up.

I understand your point. That's why I asked him about the network settings and the topology.

Totardo could possibly be using the host machine IP address, not hte VM IP address. :-)

When you boot the install disc and the install completes ACS will present the following.

The IP address you would use would not be the VMplayer but the machine IP address you entered? Not used VMplayer just ESXi so I am assuming its similar.

Type 'setup' to configure your appliance

localhost:

Did you enter the setup script and put in IP address etc..

The details you enter are as follows, after you complete the script it reboots again

localhost login: setup

Enter hostname[]: acs-server-1

Enter IP address[]: 209.165.200.225

Enter IP default netmask[]: 255.255.255.0

Enter IP default gateway[]: 209.165.200.1

Enter default DNS domain[]: mycompany.com

Enter Primary nameserver[]: 209.165.200.254

Add/Edit another nameserver? Y/N : n

Enter username [admin]: admin

Enter password:

Enter password again:

Pinging the gateway...

Pinging the primary nameserver...

Do not use `Ctrl-C' from this point on...

Appliance is configured

Installing applications...

Installing acs...

Generating configuration...

Rebooting...

After the reboot you should be able to login and verify the install. As Scott said

show application status ACS will verify all the processes are running.

Also use

show application

or

show application version.

Hello Pete, Steve

The software stop and say:

localhost login:

By following your tips, I enter 'setup'

localhost login: setup

But he reply with:

Password:

This is not like how you describe it. You say to me enter the command 'setup' at localhost login after that I should brought to this feedback:

Enter hostname[]: acs-server-1

But instead of that, I brought to entering password. What was the problem guys?

Hello Amjad,

I'm running the VMware player and Windows 7 on the same laptop from which I run https://.

I can ping the VMware machine from Windows 7. But the GUI won't showed up when https to the VM.

What could be the problem?

Thank you

Can you login into the console? Have you provided address to the ACS from the initial wizard?

If you used "setup" before then it wont work again.

When setup is allowed the prompt will tell that:

Type 'setup' to configure your appliance

localhost:

Now, the questions are: what is the ip of the ACS?

What is the network config for the VM? What is the ip address that VMWare adapter on the laptop has?

What is the default gateway for acs?

I kind a confuse Amjad. Would you please give a sight to screen cap below?

You installed the OS, but ACS did not install. Make sure you follow the minimum requirements especially the hard drive space.

500 Gb?????

Is this requirement also happen to VM player??

I have always had to specify the minimum to get ACS to install on my VM's.

Per the doc

Note ACS 5.0 installation may fail with less than 500GB hard-disk space.

You are ok. VM can be done with 64 GB. If you have it installed then there is no limitation problem. If there is any limitation it would have told you that at time of installation and you could not install it.

Now i think you went through the setup wizard at least once, right? This is what it looks like.

If yes, then you configured a username and a password for the console, use them o login and get (show running config) and (show application status axs) output.
