Changing AP 1230 and 1231 from lightweight to autonomous

Hi. I cannot TFTP this tar file to both 1230 and 1231 APs. Both are lightweight APs that I've wiped to the rommon mode (ap>) and I issue the command:

tar -xtract c1200/k9w7-mx.123-8.JA 10.0.0.2

And I get a error saying: "permission denied"

Notes:

The AP has defaulted to the 10.0.0.1 IP.

My laptop is set to 10.0.0.2 255.255.255.0 IP

My TFTP-Server is on and the root folder with the .tar file is in there.

ether_init, flash_init, tftp_init (these commands have been executed)

My firewall is disabled.

SO, with all that being said, WHY DOESN'T THIS WORK!???

The fastest and easiest way of converting an AP from lightweight to autonomous (without an AP) is by this method below:

Using a TFTP Server to Return to a Previous Release

Beginner

I tried that. No go. As soon as I've done all those steps. I reboot the AP and it defaults back to being a LWAPP.

Can you please post the output to the command "dir flash:" please?

you should be able to sit on the console and watch the AP pull the image from your TFTP server.  Try the mode button reload again while you're on the console.

also make sure that 'show known file types' is enabled

Tried it at least 2 dozen times over the past 3 days. 'Show know file types' is enabled.

I'm gunna chuck these old Cisco APs out the office window...I swear....lol.

The Cisco Upgrade tool only changes a autonomous to LWAPP correct? Not vice versa? I've tried using the upgrade tool on a Wins7 and WindowsXP machine and it keeps giving me an error saying another TFTP server is in use...when it isn't. It's lying!

Looks like the path you specified in the root tftp doesn't have this file.  You should be able to ping the AP also which will default to 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0.  Can you ping the AP when the AP has booted up?

Thanks,

Scott

Changing AP 1230 and 1231 from lightweight to autonomous

The .tar file is in the TFTP Root folder. Also, I can't ping to the AP because if I let it boot like I did above, the

'tar -xtract c1200/k9w7-mx.123-8.JA 10.0.0.2'

command won't work.

If I unplug my Ethernet cable, allow the AP to boot, it will stay in ROMMON mode with the 'ap>' prompt. If I connect my cable then, it a few seconds before I can even try to ping the 10.0.0.1 address, it will boot up all the way to the

'AP000f.245b.5f11>' prompt.

See my dilemma?

Changing AP 1230 and 1231 from lightweight to autonomous

so dumb question.  when attempting this ,what is the IP and mask on your nic?

Steve

Ummmm ... that's not right.  It should be /8.

Scott's right.  The file doesn't exist or your TFTP client is pointing to the wrong directory.

Hall of Fame Master

Changing AP 1230 and 1231 from lightweight to autonomous

The mask shouldn't really matter if your using 10.0.0.2 on you PC.  I use /24:)

What I would do is use 3CDeamon and put that on another machine and use one as a tftp server and the other as a client and see if you can put or get a file.

Thanks,

Scott

The file does exist:

C:\TFTP-Root\c1200-k9w7-tar.default.tar

And the TFTP Client is pointing to this folder above.
