Hi,
If I setup an 1131 Cisco access point with WPA2 does that encrypt just the authentication portion for access, or does each packet going forward, once successfully authenticated, get encrypted also?
Thanks,
William

What I basically want to know is after I have successfully authenticated using a WPA2 password to the access point can someone still sniff my connection and capture my future traffic?

Hi,
WPA2 will do that Authentication and the AES will encryp the data you send..

So to summarize you are saying that setting up WPA2 authentication then creates an encrypted session till I disconnect? Basically making my connection be secured from the ability to sniff my packets while I browse or work on files after successfully suthenticating? I don't need to connect and then establish a VPN to secure y connection?
Just clarifying

Yes you are right!! the data will get encrypted by 128bit AES.. not sure about the exact terminology.. please google it and you will be able to find the same in IEEE papers or WPA2 scrub notes..

Do you have a good Cisco link that describes how the entire session is encrypted, and not just the authentication portion?
