hello all

Currently we have a issue that when our wifi is running ,some of aps have too much clients such as

AP1:100clients

AP2: 20clients

AP3: 15clients

how can I do to put a great of clients from ap1 to ap2 or ap3 ? I had already tried to reduced the ap1's power level and increase for others and disabled the low data rates , but It looks like doesn't work.

Thanks for everyone's help !

My wlc is 2504 and my ap is 3702

how can i force client to choose Which AP to connect

You can't.  The wireless clients are the one that chooses which APs to join.

Upgrade the drivers to the wireless clients helps a lot.

thank you for your reply

Do you have any idea to resolve the issue that some of aps have too much clients but others are not ?

Do you have any idea to resolve the issue that some of aps have too much clients but others are not ?

What are these wireless clients?  Are they laptops/netbooks?  Are they smartphones/tablets?

Actually half of they are laptops and others are smartphones , you know people often have two or more decives now .

For now, upgrade the drivers of the wireless NIC and see if it improves things.

Are you able to determine if this issue is affecting 802.11b MORE than 802.11a?

Hi Leo

thank you for you answer !

correct ! this issue is affecting 802.11b MORE than 802.11a . so you think now the only way I can try is upgrade the dirvers of the NIC ?

Hi,

If the users connect to 802.11g more then 802.11a, you should check your load balance setting, WLC -- Wireless -- Advanced -- Load Balance.

this issue is affecting 802.11b MORE than 802.11a

Hmmmm ... Co-channel interference.  What exact models of APs?

you should check your load balance setting

Unless you're looking for more trouble, DO NOT enable Load Balancing.

Hmmm.. what's the meaning of ap's exact models ? do you mean if ap working at 802.11a and 802.11b ?

No, what are the different AP models do you have?

ap model is AIR-CAP3702I-H-K9

ap model is AIR-CAP3702I-H-K9

Ok, so is CleanAir enabled?

Pick two APs that the wireless clients don't "like" to go to and post the complete output to the command "sh ap auto-rf 802.11b <AP Name>".

yes Cleanair is enabled

here is the output :

(Cisco Controller) >show ap auto-rf 802.11b YXP-AP-3F-08

AP Name.......................................... YXP-AP-3F-08

Channel Utilization.......................... 81 %

81%???   That is really high.  Above 75% and the band is totally useless.

Attached Clients............................. 28 clients

There are currently 28 wireless clients associated to this AP.

Judging from the output above, I am suspecting the wireless clients are behaving as expected.  They are avoiding APs with very high co-channel interference.
