Mobility Services Engine licensing

Hello, i have one MSE running with 100 WIPS licenses. Now i want to add second MSE to offload the first one a bit, and add additional 100 WIPS licenses + one "AIR-CAS-6KC-K9 Context Aware License For 6K Clients and Tags (RSSI based)". My question is: how should i plan license upgrade when i will have two MSE's? Should i have separate license files for separate MSE's, or can they share/balance licenses somehow?

Thanks,

Wojtek Mitus

Hello Wojtek,

Just a few notes. The CAS licensing post 7.4 is referred to as Location License. The licensing is tied to a UDI (Unique Device Identifier).

Information regarding MSE licensing: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/aironet-602-officeextend-access-point/117539-technote-mselicense-00.html

Your installation could be done as a redundant configuration. The standard level VM and 3355 can support 6000 wIPS and 2500 APs.

Sizing information: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/mse/8-0/MSE_CMX/8_0_MSE_CAS/7_4_MSE_CAS_chapter_0101.html#ID102

Configuring HA: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/mse/8-0/MSE_CMX/8_0_MSE_CAS/7_4_MSE_CAS_chapter_0100.html

I hope this helps, if you are running older versions of code please let me know.

Thanks

Hi,

For high-availability deployments, you need to purchase one set of licenses installed on the primary appliance. There is no load balancing as secondary will come when Primary would go down either automatically or manually as configured in the PI. Additionally , if you are making two VM as Primary and secondary , You would need activation Licenses for both the Boxes.

About naming convention , the licensing naming convention is changed in MSE and is a bit different for Pre 7.4 , 7.4 and post 7.4 version , So for that refer datasheets of the respective versions. For example on 7.4plus , the licenses are enforced as AP based and not endpoint based.

Regards

Dhiresh
