We have had several 3com based WLAN's with dual SSID's using 2 methods of authentication - WPA2 & WPA-PSK on each AP. We have had to replace these as they couldn't take the environmental conditions. Is it possible to achieve WPA2 & WPA-PSK on one SSID on the 1231? (VLAN's are not a viable options due to the different vendor network switches across the various sites involved).

You need to differentiate between encryption and authentication!
Authentication types:
- 802.1x authentication server installed
- WPA-PSK: pre shared key configured at the AP
Encryption modes:
- WEP (old standard, not recommended)
- WPA which uses TKIP
- WPA which uses AES encryption
As a combination you can achieve:
- WPA (TKIP) with either 802.1x or PSK
- And Also WPA2 (AES) with either 802.1x or PSK
So, you can apply encryption mode as AES (WPA2) with PSK.
I hope this is helpful
Plaz. rate if it does!

Hello,
I just read this post. Are there any sample configs for setting up a SSID with WPA-PSK on a 1231? Thanks,
Joe
