WDS and Access Point Authentication. How does it work ?

Dear All,

APs can be authenticated through WDS against a Radius Server. But how can they authenticate without a username and a password in the Radius DB ? In the WDS settings there is nowhere a field where you can enter a username/pw of a user defined on the Radius Server !??

Thanks for your feedback.

You do need to have an entry in the DB for the username password of the AP. If I remember correctly the entry on the client AP is made under, Wireless Services > AP, here you can define the WDS username the AP will send. Alternately, you can use the CLI command of:

wlccp ap username < name > password 0 < password >

Dear colleague,

just one more question on this - how can it be that the AP gets authenticated anyway - even if I do not enter the username/password under Wireless Services --> AP (and not via the IOS CLI) ?

Thanks,

Thorsten
