wips and WLC

Hello,

I have a project where i was asked for a wlc that support wireless intrusion prevention system (wips), WLC 3504 suits the project but i am not sure if it supports wips or not there is no thing in the datasheet even for the wlc 5520, not a wireless expert but i think wips is not a feature in the wlc itself and we need MSE to have wips, i think 3504 will work normally with that.

Can anyone just shed some light her, shall i go with the 3504 ?

Personally i do not like to club WLC with IPS features, Let Alone do WLC his own area for better performance, and introduce IPs as another component in the network for better roles each one do best.

Performance of any IPS is measured by number of signatures and how well the signatures are written, cisco WLC supports 16 signatures by default, but if budget allows you can also buy MSE and Cisco prime for supporting up to 100 plus signatures, the scanning is done by the AP itself so you AP should supports wIPS sub mode or should be configured in monitoring mode.
