WLC 5520 "This page can’t be displayed"

I am receiving an increasing number of "This page can’t be displayed" messages when trying to access my system..

While the ping latency is <1ms I still suspect packet loss and timeouts..

The issue is observed with all browsers..  (win7p) but strangely enough I have a slightly better chance of success on my win10 package on the same switch/segment.

The WLC attached to a n7k is 5 miles away linked via ASE fiber..

The my local WLC, attached another n7k that I'm on is usually ok.

Has anyone else experienced something similar?

I don't have any issues with CLI other than typo's

I haven't seen such behavior David.

Which version you running on those 5520s ?

Rasika

Hi Rasika,

The 5520 and 5508 ha pairs are both on 8.5.140.0 code.

the 5520 be 7 miles out at the County Court house.  While the 5508 ha pair is co-located with me.

the 2 n7k's are linked via the AT&t ASE system.

The issue occurs most frequently linking to the 5520's.  but does occasionally occur with the 5508.

issue did exist on the old 8.3.143.0 code.

gui and cli access is ssh only.

Ping times are min 0, max 10, avg 1

system Statistics reports that the unit is not doing any work (99.58% idle)

don't ask for the 'home' page.. one will have to close the tab and reopen..

What do you mean by "access my system"? Do they only try to reach a single webserver where it's failing? Or is the other access also most of the time failing?

Typos on the CLI?!? Via SSH or Telnet?
SSH is hard to believe, if it's Telnet, then you have packet loss. Check the interfaces of the WLC and Nexus if they are clear of errors.

patoberli,

MY typoes..  not the wlc's.

No errors reported on the n7k port channels feeding the package.

Problem solved.  Seems the HTTPS redirect function for guest users messes with admin access.

Turned off HTTPS redirect and all is well.

@David Ritter

Can you please share a screenshot of how to disable this? I am having frustrations with WLC GUI and perhaps this will fix it too.

Thanks

GUI
Management tab/HTTP-HTTPS page
HTTP-HTTPS configuration; HTTPS Redirection; Disabled and Apply.

thanks @David Ritter  - if this works then I will have solved a mystery that has bugged me for a very long time :-)

I think the default there is actually disabled (just checked my two WLC where it is disabled).

How true. But I had enabled it inorder for my guests to hit the open
ssid with an https:// target and get a successful redirect to the
authentication routines. Otherwise they must start with a http://
target and then continue to https://
Oh well such is life.
