WLC5520 in a SD-WAN Environment?

Good Morning,

I currently have 2 x WLC 5520, with a combination of 1810W and 3602 APs in my environment which are each supporting about 7 remote sites at this time over a standard MPLS WAN.

We are currently looking at going towards an SD-WAN Solution but have only recently purchased this Wireless Hardware so it would be difficult to replace the Wireless in addition to everything else at this time.

I have not been able to find any documents as of yet to see how the 5520 can perform in an SD-WAN model but wanted to reach out and see if anyone would have some feedback.

Let me know if you have any questions and I can try to clarify any details,

Thank you kindly for your time

SD-WAN wont have an affect on the wireless.

Only thing to make sure of is that the delay requirements of the APs to WLC are meet if SD-WAN when defining your policies

The Wireless solution is underlay transport agnostic whether you run it via MPLS, local LAN, SD-WAN, etc. As long as your chosen method supports CAPWAP tunnels from the DC to branch then you're rosy. SD-WAN just sets up IPSEC tunnels between sites so it shouldn't affect you at all, your CAPWAP just runs within that.

Cheers,

Ric
