I just recieved in the mail an aironet 1042n ap. It was assigned an ip of 192.168.1.254 by my router. When I attempt to connect it prompts for a password and states the default username and password is admin and 1234. It will not except this, or Cicso and Cisco, or cisco and cisco. Does this mean it's doa? Any ideas? Also does this require a wlan controller?

Are you hitting it via the web/telnet/serial/what?
Default should be admin / Cisco if I remember correctly.

I am logging in on port 80 through chrome not sure if browser type matters. Also I am on a macbook if that effects anything. and admin/Cisco does not work. Thanks for your response, I need all the help I can get.
I will also go ahead and layout the network for you. SMC8014(cable Modem) -> Linksys E4200(Router) -> Cisco SLM2024T-NA(Switch) -> Telesync Switch -> 1042n

Have you tried via the serial port?
The config guide says Cisco/Cisco on the HTTP server, but I've seen the admin / Cisco before.
