Am I reading the documents correctly that these currently cannot bridge to each other either in Mobility Express mode or connected to a WLC?

Hi,

As per my knowledge...

1. I have always used the autonomous software image for APs to bridge.  On a WLC/ME based AP, is Mesh RAP = autonomous root bridge mode and Mesh MAP = autonomous non-root bridge mode?

AP1562D will not have standalone autonomous mode.

2. Does Cisco plan an autonomous image for the 1560?

Same as Answer 1

3. Does Cisco have a commit date for an 8.4 version w/ 1560 mesh supported?

Dont know...
4. Does Cisco currently have a beta release of 8.4 for the 1560 that supports mesh?

The AP1560 is first supported for local, flex and Mobility Express mode in SW 8.3MR1.  Mesh support will come in SW release 8.4.

Thanks for the info.  I think you misunderstood my first question.  I was asking if the modes listed were equivalent.

autonomous / WLC or ME based

root bridge   /  mesh RAP

non-root bridge / mesh MAP

Hi,

can anybody confirm that this is still the case? I can't remember how I got this information that 1560 supports mesh only in 8.4, but checking the current release notes of 8.3, I don't any restrictions regarding 1560 and mesh.

Hi Kraemer

I know this is an old thread, but let me confirm this for the benefit of others.

1560 APs are not supported for Mesh on the 8.3 code train. It is mentioned under the heading 'Key Features Not supported on Cisco Aironet 1560...' https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn83mr1.html#concept_FF724317C5244CC6A6D75C27BCDBC600

You can upgrade to a stable code on 8.5 or 8.8 where this support has been provided. The release notes for 8.4.100.0 mentions that support for Mesh has been added for 1560 APs - https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn84.html#ap-wave2
