2504 with 3702I download speed half of upload speed

I just installed a 2504 WLC (7.6.130) for a customer of mine.  This is used just for guest wireless and has it's own dedicated internet connection. When testing bandwidth for the customer we see the full bandwidth when wired into the router 100MB.  When I try the wireless side my down/up speeds vary.  My download speed is around 20-25MB and my uploads are around 90MB.

 

I am connected to the AP with a RSSI of -60. I have disabled lower data rates in both bands..  What would cause the difference between my upload speed and my download speed?

Sounds like you're connected to 802.11b/g.  

1.  What is the model of your wireless NIC; 

2.  What firmware is this wireless NIC running on? 

3.  Do you have TPC & DCA turned on?

1. I did connect both on 802.11b/g and also 802.11a/n/ac.  Although my tests improved on 5 GHz it was still uneven. 35-50MB down 85-90MB up.

 

2. Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC9260.  Driver version 17.0.2.5

I tested with a couple other laptops as well with the same result

 

3. TPC & DCA are turned on

Let's do the basics, then. 

 

Can you check your LAN first to determine the APs interfaces do not have any overutilization and/or line errors?  

 

Post the config of the SSID.

do a show client detail <mac address> and send me the output. also how many clients are connected on that radio of the AP?

I will get the output tomorrow when i return to the site.  When I checked the clients on the same AP there were only 3. 

 

Total of 12 AP's and 29 clients when I was testing the bandwidth.

 

I have attached the output

so the current data rate is m15. assuming this is 20 mhz channel and 800ns long guard interval the link speed is approx 130mbps. since wireless is half duplex you can at max get about 60-70mbps throughout which gets reduced due to inteference, channel contention etc.

did you try a wireless to wireless thoroughput test with UDP using iperf?

I did this morning.  It's showing 85-90 mbps ... After running iperf over the wireless I decided to check the wired connection again today.  It was showing the same results as the wireless now.  I think this might be a router/WAN issue.

Do you mean AC7260?  IF this is the case, then the driver is, catagorically, OLD.  Can I ask if you can upgrade the drivers?

 

Once the drivers have been updated, can I ask if you disable 802.11ac on the wireless NIC and see speed performance improvements?

Hi guys,

 

I'm having the same behavior with 5508 (8.0.110.6) / APs 1602i.

 

There are some minimal variations but mostly the Downloads are half or less the speed rate of the Uploads.

We have test it with laptops (m12 and m15 rates) and smartphone (m7 rate), with PSK and webauthentication wlans and in different speedmeter sites. 

 

There are some overhead values (<10%) due to amount of clients (5 clients) and amount of SSIDs (7) but the results are basically the same.

 

The customer only has one web gateway but we have already tested with wired clients. With wired clients the Down/Upload speeds are more or less the same.

Any suggestions?

My customer was using a cheap router that he bought from Target.  Once he replaced this I was able to get full speeds up and down.  Not sure if this could be happening on your end but it's worth taking a look.

We've used iperf between two wireless clients on the same wlan, same AP and we're not getting more than 17 Mbits/s

can you post the WLAN config?

and what is the port config of the switchport the AP and WLC are connected to?
