2504 WLC upgrade

Planning to upgrade WLC from 8.0.121.0 to 8.5.161.0

When checked sysinfo, I am seeing the Bootloader version as 1.0.20.

Kindly let me know whether the bootloader version will create any issue.

Also let me know how to upgrade the Bootloader version.

Cisco 2504 Wireless Controllers

An upgrade to FUS 2.0 is mandatory if you have PIC 1.0.19 due to CSCuu46671 ; if you do not have PIC 1.0.19, it is mandatory to upgrade to FUS 1.9 or 2.0 before upgrading to AireOS release 8.3.121.0 or above. Bootloader Version is upgraded to 1.0.20 Note  Verify the bootloader version by entering the command show sysinfo. The output displays the following line only if FUS 2.0 is installed. Bootloader Version................... 1.0.20 Cisco WLCs with PIC version older than 1.0.18 will not show PIC update when upgraded to FUS 2.0

If you are seeing that bootloader version, you already have the latest FUS 2.0 image. Therefore you can upgrade to 8.5.161.0 version without any trouble.

Note that you have to upload a supplementary AP image bundle if you are using below specific AP models. Therefore WLC has to reboot twice during the upgrade procedure (you can treat it as an upgrade two times).

Changes in Images and Installation Procedure for Cisco 2504 WLC, Cisco 5508 WLC, and Cisco WiSM2

Due to an increase in the size of the Cisco WLC software image, the Cisco 2504 WLC, Cisco 5508 WLC, and Cisco WiSM2 software images are split into the following two images:

• Base Install image, which includes the Cisco WLC image and a subset of AP images (excluding some mesh AP images and AP80x images) that are packaged in the Supplementary AP Bundle image.

• Supplementary AP Bundle image, which includes AP images that are excluded from the Base Install image. The APs that feature in the Supplementary AP Bundle image are:

  • Cisco AP802

  • Cisco AP803

  • Cisco Aironet 1530 Series AP

  • Cisco Aironet 1550 Series AP (with 128-MB memory)

  • Cisco Aironet 1570 Series APs

  • Cisco Aironet 1600 Series APs
