there are multiple reset options

one of them is to clear the configuration
-> hold reset button +/- 20 sec until LED flashes red

other is to clear configuration including all files on flash
-> hold reset button much longer than 30 sec but less than 60 (?not sure) sec

if you hold the reset button longer than 60 sec , th button pressed will be ignored and no reset occurs

looks like you used the second option, so at this time the flash contains no bootable-image

otherwise the flash got corrupted somehow

-> follow firmware recovery procedure

Uuups, it seems, I pressed the reset button a few seconds too long. The instructions of firmware recovery don't work.

The AP joins the controller but the reset takes the AP even in the init>> mode.

>>> AP image version 8.10.162.0 backup 0.0.0.0, Controller 17.3.3.26 <<<

-> be patient!
this is a big version difference, and the upgrade takes a very, very long time and needs several reboots until completed.
if you have no patience, you may try to manually load the correct firmware version from a tftp server before trying to join the controller

by the way: >>> our 5520 master controller <<<
the highest version for the 5520 is Release 8.5.182.0 ED

looks like you have got a 9800 controller running 17.3.3.26 in your network that the AP tries to associate to ?
if you have both on the same AP management LAN then the AP may continuously switch between the two controllers

one time upgrading the image available on the 9800, next downgrading to the image on the 5520 !
NB! depending on how the controller is discovered, the AP selects the controller that responded first on the discovery
-> use different ap-managent vlan's for each controller

or direct the AP to the correct controller using DNS or DHCP options, or prime the AP with the controller address manually

I know. This was a try to connect to a 9800 WLC when I choose the option 2 (new) in the menu

Please choose one of the following boards:
1. 3K
2. 2K (new)
3. 2K (proto)
4. Milos
5. 2KH
6. 3KVE (v-sku)
7. 3KH/3KA/4K
8. Duplo
init>>

When I choose 2 and connect the AP in the vlan of our 5520 WLC (which have the same image version 8.10.162.0)  I get the same result. Always booting into init mode. Trying to load the image version from a tftp server doesn't work.

>>> Stopped Cisco ME service. <<<

-> the AP seems to be running the ME image ?

chapter: Converting an AP from Mobility Express to CAPWAP Type

No chance to do anything. No console access. The AP always boots to init mode.

I opened a support case at our reseller.

Thanks for the help.

Hi did u able to solve the issue? The issue is due to the board environment values are not set and for some reason it was removed in ur case some and we need to set the board id and board flags. I knew how to set the board flags but not the board I’d and Did u get any update from vendor? Thanks

Hi, no we don't solve the issue. No helpful update. Sorry.

thanks

hi Hubert what you have to do is to successfully migrate the code to any valid running code based on your existing s/w running in your AP. this process will update the board config id as kernel boot options into boot sections. it happened to me and after successful migration of code, it fixed it. thanks

hi Pieterh - if the flash got corrupted and is there way you can follow firmware recovery procedure to recover the AP. the AP is dead no display on the console but i am sure its still live because its getting the power from the POE switch port. i tried long press but nothing is happening. can you share the different reset options in the reset button mode that you said. thanks in advance
