802.11g ranges

I attended a Cisco class that focused on implementing an 802.11b network. In that class we were told that as a rule of thumb the data rate can be tied to Signal/Noise Ratio. With a ratio above 10+dB, you can expect an 11Mbps data rate, 8+db = 5.5 Mbps, 6+dB = 2Mbps and 4+dB = 1 Mbps.

Has anyone ever seen something like this for the 802.11g standad?

Thanks.

Don

As far as I know, 802.11g can operate at data rates greater than11mbps.
