We have a customer that is looking to allow only static IP addresses onto the wireless network via the new 5508 we are putting into place. Any ideas on this? I can see where to require DHCP but not the opposite.

As you found, the WLC doesn't have a way to only do static IP. The way to do this would be to configure a bunk DHCP server under the interface the WLAN is going to use. So if a client did send a DHCP request it would never get a response, and would not get on the network.
Those that had a static IP wouldn't attempt DHCP and would be able to get on the network fine.

need to enable dhcp proxy on wlc to implement steve's suggestion.
you could also do dhcp reservation.

you wouldn't need to enable dhcp proxy, if you are sending DHCP requests (which you shoudln't be seeing anyway) to an address that doesn't exist.

if proxy is not enabled on wlc then it doesn't care/use dhcp server ip configured on that wlan mapped interface and dhcp broadcast is forwarded to that vlan on the upstream switch. However, if you don't have the dhcp server on that vlan or ip helper to dhcp server then yes dhcp request can't reach an dhcp server.
