I have a Cisco 1242 AP with patch antenna attached(ANT2485P-R...2.4Ghz, 8.5dBi) placed on a wall that it directed down a long isle. From the wall to the end of the isle is almost 200 feet. I need reception to run RF guns that scan codes off material stored on the shelves. All the scanning is done on the ground level.
Is there a method to calculate how much antenna gain I should set the patch antenna at in the 1242 GUI? The range in the GUI is from -128 to 128 dB.
Also does anyone have any idea as to how high I should place the patch antenna off the ground given floor to celing height is close to 35 feet.
