5508 WLC running 8.4.100.0 -   firmware upgraded to 8.5.171.0

2800 series AP's upgrade and join with 8.5.171.0   all 2700's fail

All AIR-CAP2702I-Z-K9  on the controller fail to upgrade and will only work again when WLC was changed back to 8.4.100

2700 AP's also fail "AP Image download - Download Primary image from WLC of 8.5.171.0

Same error occured with image when trying to test move AP's from 5508 to 9800 WLC

2702 AP has been factory reset  - issue still remains

All 2702 AP's on controller show no backup image (Backup SW version 0.0.0.0) while 2802 AP's show backup version of 8.5.171

Error message seen on all AP2702I   -

Thank you M for the reply.

I do concur that bug looks to be the issue - but as per current Cisco 8.5.171 release notes - 8.4.100 to 8.5.171 is now fully supported.

However , that does not mean the bug has not re-surfaced in this case!!!

Also - 8.5.110  and 8.5.105 are deferred releases and no longer available

At this point - looks like a TAC case for Cisco!!!!

Regards

Phil

- Indeed , you will probably have to do that , in order to sort things out,

You would need to manually install the image on the problematic APs, if you are trying to go to 8.5.171.0 then you need to download the lightweight image "15.3(3)JF14" for the AP AP2702I from Cisco.com then place the image on a TFTP server and finally force a manual upgrade with the command "archive download-sw /force-reload /overwrite tftp://<tftp ip address>/<image name.tar>"

If the issue persists, then upgrade the AP from rommon mode (last resource, works all the time), the link below explains how to install an image to the AP via rommon:
