AP Aironet 1240 connection problem

Hi there

I have a problem with my AP. Basically when I plug it in to the PoE switch it will start up (I can see the lights) but for some reason there is no light on the PoE switch. Looks like there is nothing connected. I chave changed the cable, port on the PoE switch but still the same. Is it possible that maybe few pins on the RJ-45 socket are demaged or there may be sth else.

The other APs start without any issues and the light is always on on the PoE switch.

I also need to add that the AP can not get the IP address.

Thanks for any help.

To rule out a bad AP, have you conncted it to AC  power with a power supply and see if the AP fires up ?

I have not tried this.

I can console to the AP and the FastEthernet port is UP but protocol is DOWN but still... there should be a light on the switch...

Every single AP (I have 14 of them) once I plugget to the PoE in a second I have orange light wich turns into green after.

This one have no lights at all but it loads IOS from flash and looks normal apart of the Ethernet connection

Basically when I plug it in to the PoE switch it will start up

What exact model?

I chave changed the cable, port on the PoE switch but still the same. Is it possible that maybe few pins on the RJ-45 socket are demaged or there may be sth else.

Plug the AP direct to the switch port and see if the same is happening.

The model is 1240.

it is plugged directly to the swich but PoE one as i dont have any power supply.

Is the switch a Cisco Catalyst?  If so, what exact model?

Hi

To state the obvious there are several possibilities:

1. A problem ethernet cable.

2. A problem AP.

3. A problem switch port.

4. Insufficient power.

So take one of your working APs and ethernet cables and plug into the suspect switch port.

If it works fine then the switch port is OK.

If it doesn't then you either have a problem port or possibly the PoE supply is being overloaded.

Connect a console to the AP and reboot. See what gets logged on the console regarding in-line power.

On the switch use 'show power in-line' and see what is reported for the switch port you are using.

Plug your suspect AP and ethernet cable into a known working switch port. If it works then the AP and cable are fine.

Hi there

The PoE switch and the cable is fine as I plugged another AP to the same cable and it works (green light on the PoE switch). As I said I am able to console to AP and I can see that all is working fine but the protocol for FastEthernet port is down so it looks like there is no communication between PoE and AP apart power.

Is there something I can check from Console?

Hi Dominik

Can you connect via console and attach the output from 'show lwapp ap ip config' please?

Can you also reboot the AP with the console connected and capture the console session and attach that as well please?

Can you also attach the output from 'show power in-line' on the switch please?

Regards

Roger

*Sigh* ...

If your PoE switch is either a Catalyst 2960/G/S-series, 3560G/E/X-series, 3750G/E/X-series then you have the option to verify your patch cable by using the on-board TDR.  This is the reason why I kept asking you (twice) the exact model of your PoE switch.

You have a 1240.  This means that Ethernet on the TDR is the first pair.  If your first pair is flakey then you might get the same patch cable working on one AP but not on the other.
