Hi ,

We are planning having 15 Nos. of APs in our network . We are planning to buy a Cisco 3650  IP base Switches 2 Nos. and conneced to a stack.

We want that to add AP license 15 Nos. to one of the switch .

In that case shall we get redundancy if the switch with AP licesnse will fail some how?

or altrenatively can we transfer the  AP license to other switch ? if yes what is the method to transfer ?

You can transfer license between switches. So best thing would be having AP license (would say 10 ) in each switch member and distribute AP load between those two switches.

As long as you get dual uplink (1 from each member), in a situation single switch down, you will get wireless working acceptable level (what ever the AP connected to affected switch, will not work)

This post should help you to get this started

Refer the link : http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3650/software/release/3se/system_management/configuration_guide/b_sm_3se_3650_cg/b_sm_3se_3650_cg_chapter_0100.html

The following are the restrictions for configuring and using RTU licenses.

  • AP count licenses can be ordered and pre-activated on your switch.
  • Imaged based licenses can be upgraded. AP count licenses can be deactivated and moved between switches and controllers.
  • To activate a permanent license, you must reboot your switch after configuring the new image level. The AP-count license does not require a reboot to activate.
  • An expired image based evaluation license can not be reactivated after reboot.
  • Stack members of a switch stack must run the same license level.
  • Licenses on mixed switch stacks are not supported.
  • Your switch is pre-installed with the image that you ordered. If an image was not pre-ordered, then the switch is booted with a LAN base image by default.
  • Adder AP-count licenses are installed in the factory.
