It depends in the code you run in the WLC that specifies what APs are supported or not. The WLC 4400 can only support up to the v7.0.x. This matrix will show you what APs are supported for that code and previous code versions.

Most suitable choices are 1142 and 3502.1262 has similar specs as 1142 , the main difference is 1262 has rugged interface which is more suitable for harsh enviroments like factories or too hot/cold areas which has bigger scale of operating temperature.
Just check CleanAir technology , if it is suitable for you pick 3500 , if not pick 1142 as the most suitable and more economic selection

For a 4400 running the latest code, if you want 802.11n with external antennas, then your choices are the 1260 and the 3500e.

Thanks for your time. does AP with external antenna cover more area then with internal antenna?
Thanks,

It can if you choose to get a higher gain antenna. But higher isn't always better. You want small cells not large ones due to Csma/CA.

Yes and no.
Yes, it covers a wide are, your antenna can shoot far away. But the question you should be asking is this: What antenna does a client have? Not alot.
Wireless is a two-way street. Both the client and the AP must be able to hear each other.
IF you put a large antenna on the AP then the client can hear the AP, however, the client has a tiny antenna. So how can the AP hear the client?

Almas,
Just like what George said.... Don't think about external antennas will give you better coverage. If you don't understand how RF works and how your devices work, putting a high gain antenna might seem to give you a little more coverage but can also cause you more issues.

Thank you Mehmet and Leo,
please i also need your confirmation on 1041 and 1141 if supported on 4400
Best Regards

First you have to check your software version instead of Platform type.
1041 requires min. software version 7.0.98.0
1142 requires min. 5.2.157.0
If you match there version or above you can use it , else you have upgrade your WLC software.

please i also need your confirmation on 1041 and 1141 if supported on 4400
