Thanks for your update. I suspect it is the WLC firmware issue, try to uprade it to the latet ver. (4.0.1550). Please advise the result after upgrade it. Thx.

Looks like the AP has passed through the discovery and join phases but is having issues with the image download. The usual suspect for this issue is a regulatory domain mismatch between the AP and the controller. For example, if you set your controller for "US" as the regulatory domain and you have an AP configured for, say, Japan (-J).

Thanks for the reply. If i look at the model of my AP (AIR-LAP1242AG-C-K9), it regulatory domain is from China. I don't see a way to do the setting (changing) in IOS for the regulatory domain or i miss out something ?
For my WLC (AIR-WLC2006-K9), I believe the regulatory domain is change using the country command. If my AP regulatory domain is from China, do i had to chose the China country for my WLC country setting even I in a different country (Malaysia)?
Please help.

Are the time sync. between WLC and AP ? I have a question, if the AP and WLC come w/ the same IOS, why still download the image ?
Moreover, you can try to upgrade the WLC to latest image first then try again.
I have an autonomous 1242 then using upgrade tool to upgrade to LWAPP and able to communicate to the 2006 w/o any problem.
Hope this helps.

The AP is already a LWAPP version when it arrived. It not an autonomous by default. So, the upgrade tool is of no use here.
The AP had the LWAPP image version 3.0.51.0 and my WLC image is version 3.2.78.0.
I don't known why it still download the image even the IOS is the same. But my real issue is that the AP can't associate with my WLC, hence the problem.
I had try to change the clock (can change) but i can't save it (no command to save the config). Once reboot the AP clock go back to default (March 01 2006). I believe the LWAPP AP version is a read only IOS image if we configure it through the console (read somewhere from the Cisco Web site).
I also suspect the problem could be the WLC image is not up to date.
Will ask the vendor to update the image and try again to setup it up.
Thanks for the reply.

Hi..
I had the same problem before.. I just upgraded my WLC2006 to version 3.2.116.21.
Then later upgraded again to version 4.0.155.5.
Btw, please see to it you have DHCP running and no ip conflicts..

We had confirm that the DHCP is running fine with option 43 in the same subnet as the WLC and AP. Look at the below for full error message with the DHCP assigned IP.

Is it possible to create the "update" directory in flash manually ?
And, did you upgrade the WLC to latest ver. ?
08-22-2006 11:56 PM
Yes, i had try to manually create the "update" directory without problem in the flash (AP unit) and reboot but the error message is still the same.
Regarding upgrading the WLC image to the latest version, since we are on the end-user and we don't have the Smartnet subscription, we can't login to download the software. Had to depend on our vendor to obtain the latest image version for us.
Will keep you guy inform once the vendor downloaded the latest image for us.
Thanks.

For the updates, we had just upgraded the WLC2006 images to ver 4.0.155.5 and the problem solved ! No more complaint or error from the AP.
Thanks for all the reply.
