Apple applications fails to work over Cisco Wireless.

Dear Experts,

Earlier I had issues in association apple devices for an ssid configured in wpa-2 psk, however enabling fast ssid roaming helped me overcome this issue.

Currently I am running into an another issue like the apple applications (Apple Time Capsule, Apple Air Printer , Apple TV) fails to work over wireless.

Even though the application and the end device in connected on to the same ssid but still it fails to communicate. When I have an SSID created by my mobile hotspot and associate them, every thing works as expectedly.

Intially doubted enabling UPnP(Universal Plug & Play) would help, however don't any setting related to it on both 2508 and 5508 WLC.

The code I am running is 8.0.120.0 and the device is wlc-2508.

Please let me know if I am missing something.

Thanks and Regards,

Adnan

Hi Adnan,

The applications you listed utilize the Bonjour which is a link-local multicast service discovery protocol. Generally speaking, if your devices are on the same subnet, it should work with default settings, but you might have to tweak some settings (e.g., P2P blocking) to get things working correctly. Bonjour is definitely on Cisco's radar and they've put together some documents that go over the problems with Bonjour and some new features to mitigate them. This looks like the latest document for 8.X code:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/technotes/8-0/WLAN-Bonjour-DG.html

Although you are running 8.0, I'd still review the previous documents so that you have a better picture of how Bonjour interacts with your wireless network:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/technology/bonjour/Bonjour74.pdf

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/technology/bonjour/7-5/Bonjour_Gateway_Phase-2_WLC_software_release_7-5.html
