Hi,

What version of software ? Did you try to upgrade or something ? You need to be very careful when upgrading MSE software to latest 7.0.201.204, if you screw up somewhere during the upgrade, you might have no other option than RMA the box.

Im also having the exact same issue.  I tried to upgrade to 7.0.220.0 and have this same issue.  I have a TAC case in. I will reply back if we are able to resolve by RMA or another way.

hi Ryan,

Did you get to solve this issue ? I am facing it again with another brand new MSE (7.0.201.204) which is giving the below messages and failing to start msed. I didnt doany upgrade or anything, its brand new out of the box and just did the initial setup configs, after which i rebooted and the msed is down and not able to start.

Hey Joe,

Thanks for reminding me.

Cisco had me do an RMA.  When the New MSE came in it still had an  old version of 6.0.75.0.  So i went through the whole process of  upgrading again and i received the same errors again.  To be honest i  dont think i needed to do an RMA. As long as you can still access and  upload files to the MSE.  The problem i think i was having was Binary  transfer of the files and making sure i fully uninstalled the MSE  platform and database.

I suggest the steps below only if there is "NO" data migration.

Are you using Context-aware and wIPS services?  If so download both from Cisco. At this time its the newest version.

CISCO-MSE-L-K9-7-0-220-0-64bit-db.tar

and

CISCO-MSE-L-K9-7-0-220-0-64bit.bin.gz

What i did that seemed to fix it was;

-first upload the file CISCO-MSE-L-K9-7-0-220-0-64bit-db.tar to the MSE. Upload it to "/opt/installers". I used WinSCP, make sure to select Binary for the transfer type.

- logon to your MSE.

- cd /opt/installers

- Untar the file: tar -xvf CISCO-MSE-K9-7-0-202-0-64.bit-db.tar

-  Now there will be a CISCO-MSE-L-K9-7-0-220-0-64bit.bin.gz file and some  zip files. Delete the bin.gz file ONLY "if you have or are using  Context-aware and wIPS."  If you are using CA and wIPS service, upload  the other bin.gz file you downloaded from Cisco.  Make sure to use  binary for transfer.

- type this command; gunzip CISCO-MSE-L-K9-7-0-202-0-64bit.bin.gz

- type this command; chmod +x CISCO-MSE-L-K9-7-0-202-0-64bit.bin

- Stop MSE service; type this command; /etc/init.d/msed stop

- Uninstall older MSE;  cd /opt/mse/uninstall  then type this  command "./uninstall"   to invoke the  unistaller.  Go through the steps  and make sure to uninstall the database also.

- cd /opt/installers

-invoke the installer, type this command; ./CISCO-MSE-L-K9-7-0-202-0-64bit.bin

-Follow the steps.

-then go through the setup wizard again. type this command; /opt/mse/setup/setup/setup.sh

Sorry  if there is alot of redundant stuff from the release notes and install  guide but these are the steps i took. I hope this helps.
