Cisco 5520 controller showing as "not connected" on my 6509

I have a 5520 controller with 2 approved 10 gig SFPs.  Port 1 of the controller connects to a 10gig port on a 6509.  Port 2 of 5520 is not connected to anything, but has an SFP in it. The port Te3/5 is set up a trunk and joined to a port channel (channel-group 7 mode on).  No matter what I do, the Te3/5 port shows as "not-connected".  Why would this be???   One thing I notice when doing a sh port on the controller CLI, it has speed at 10 Mbps.  Thats strange, but it recognizes the SFP as 10 gig.

Now I see the problem.

Cisco X2-10GB-LX4 is a multimod fiber at 1300nm wavelength module, while the SFP-10G-SR is an 850nm multimod.

You require Cisco X2-10GB-SR modules for your Catalyst 6500 and MMF fibres, or Cisco SFP-10G-LRM in the 5520 (make sure they're compatible, haven't checked this).

Hi,

Have you tried crossing the fibres on the patch lead?

Thanks

John

Yes I tried that.  And I also have a second 5520 connected to a different 10 gig port on the same 6509.  Same issue.  Cant imagine both fiber cables are bad.  I just don't get it.  I also swapped out the 10 gig GBIC? on the 6509.  But either way ,the switch recognizes the 10 gig module.

On the 5520, from CLI, it shows both of the 10 gig ports as admin enabled.  But for whatever reason, under Mbps it just says "10".

Index Description Type MTU Speed(Mbps) MAC address
----- --------------------------------------------------- --------------------- ------ ------------ -----------------
1 Unit: 0 Slot: 0 Port: 1 TenGigabit - Level 0x7040001 ethernetCsmacd 1500 10
2 Unit: 0 Slot: 0 Port: 2 TenGigabit - Level 0x7040001 ethernetCsmacd 1500 10

See -> Speed "10"

But maybe thats normal. The fact that the switch port shows as " notconnect 1" (1 = native VLAN)

What firmware is the controller running on?

8.3.143

Reboot the WLC with the interfaces inserted. Did you by chance have had a 1 gig SFP in the 5520 before?
I think there once was a bug like this.

I found something in Cisco community that said:

X2-10G-LX4 transceiver to SFP-10G-SR transceiver: These two modules are not compatible with each other.

Oh, that sounds like a problem.

But first try the reboot of the WLC :)

Yeah, I tried rebooting a couple times. Didn't help.

Great, thanks
