Hi Collin,

What are you trying to achieve - Just to lose all its settings or change it back to a different IOS version? If you reset the AP whilst holding the mode button down for around 10-15 seconds (the front LED should turn solid red I believe) then the AP will wipe its config and begin the default boot process again to look for the WLAN Controller etc.

Note: This may not wipe every setting as I've seen APs retain their static IP and WLAN Controller IP after this sort of reset.

Hi Ric,

The AP is previously associated to WLC. However, it is not working now after WLC firmware upgrade. i can confirm 3502i is still support in version 8.xxxx. I just need to erase the config and let it associate to WLC again, so i can reconfigure it.

It look like the AP is in factory settings but unable to associate to WLC.

i login into AP console, i see this..

*Jan 12 08:03:24.676: %CAPWAP-5-SENDJOIN: sending Join Request to Controller IP

*Jan 12 08:03:43.009: %DTLS-5-SEND_ALERT: Send FATAL : Close notify Alert to Controller IP:5246

Any idea?

Thank you.

Regards,

Collin

Hi try adding the wlc ip directly incase you do not have DHCP option 43 setup correctly or DNS resolution.

AP# capwap ap primary-base <WLC-name> <ip address>

AP# test capwap restart

it should join now. else you will need to run the debugs.

WLC debug

debug capwap errors enable

debug capwap events enable

Post the following output:

1.  WLC:  sh sysinfo;

2.  AP:  sh version;

3.  AP:  sh ip interface brief

Hi Scott,

I have another question. After the AP reset to factory settings, it does not associate to any of my WLC.  Can it be below error causing the problem?

In order to reset the Access Points to factory defaults, please follow the steps mentioned
below:

Follow these steps to delete the current configuration and return all access point
settings to the factory defaults by using the MODE button:

1. Open the access point cover (refer to the "How to Open the Top Cover" section on page
2).
2. Disconnect power from the access point (the power jack for external power or the
Ethernet cable for in-line power).
3. Press and hold the MODE button while you reconnect power to the access point.
4. Continue pressing the MODE button until the Ethernet LED turns amber. (approximately 2
to 3 seconds). Then release the button.
5. After the access point reboots, you must reconfigure it using the web browser
interface, the Telnet interface, or the access point console port.

*Jan 12 08:03:24.676: %CAPWAP-5-SENDJOIN: sending Join Request to Controller IP

*Jan 12 08:03:43.009: %DTLS-5-SEND_ALERT: Send FATAL : Close notify Alert to Controller IP:5246

I pressed the "mode" button but its not function. I try to login to the router and the username and password set by our previous network engineer are not the same as what in our records. How can i reset it without the username and password?
