Curious as the range of the AIR-LAP1142N-A-K9 access point ?

Also has anyone mounted these above the ceiling tiles in an office space..

To keep them out of view I had them mounted above the ceiling tiles and dont seem to be getting the best performance out of them.

I have offices that are literally 30 - 50 ft away that has a hard time getting any decent signal out of them

Also is there a way to adjust their power output via the control panel of cli ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Anytime you mount ap's above the ceiling tile, you might loose some coverage or a lot.  Just depends on if its resting on the tile, mounted up in the plenum ceiling or if there is obstruction around where the ap is placed.  If you ap's are showing power level of 1, then you are at the highest tx power and you will not be able to do anything about that.  Other here will also suggest you mount them below or you will just have to add additional to cover the areas you need.

Where do I find the power level of 1 value ? In the wireless controller interface or do I have to login to the AP ?

In the WLC, click on the wireless tab on top and then on the left, you can select 802.11an or 802.11bgn and look on the right side.

Got it thanks....looks like they are all set to power level 0, I guess I can change that to 1 ? Is that a global setting or do I have to configure each AP ?

Power level 0? There is something wrong. Try to set it and see if it takes. What code are you running on the wlc. Maybe try to reboot the wlc.

Looks like I am running a pretty old code on this.. 6.0.196.0 so I'll have to update it to the latest and greatest.

Do I need to worry about any licensing issues if I upgrade the code ?

Also with regards to the power settings..Looks like if I go with custom settings I have a choice of 1 - 7. Would 7 be the max power setting or 1 ?

1 would be the highest and 7 the lowest. Go ahead and upgrade... The latest 7.0.x is good.

What model WLC? There is no licensing for code upgrade you have to worry about.
