I have a WLC 2504 & tried installing a permanent license onto it via tftp but kept getting the error message below:
"% Error: License file transfer failed - Error from server: Bailing out to bad characters in filename"
Tried using tftpd64 & also solarwinds, but all to no avail.
Appropriately set the tftp directory where the license file is stored on the tftp server & also entered the url in the "Management - Software Activation - Install License page in the format as specified by an example beneath the url box".
Can any please help me in resolving what the issue might be?
Ope.

Your doing this from a wired machine correct? You will not be able to TFTP/FTP from a wireless machine if your associated to an AP that is joined to that WLC. I use 3CDeamon as an TFTP server and I know that works. You can also see if the WLC tries to connect to your tftp server or not. On 3CDeamon, your path if the file is in the root, would be ./
Make sure that your putting in the file extension also and your FW is disabled..... trying other machines helps eliminate issues too.
Thanks,
Scott
