Deploy 3702 and 802.11ac

I have a question about deploying 3702 to support 802.11ac, my original desing is based on a pair of 5760 on HA and 3702 to support natively 802.1ac but i understand that the 3700 can be energize with 802.3at for 4x4 MIMO and with 802.3af for 3x3 MIMO, but i cant fin anything that can say to me what is the total requeriments recommended for deploying 802.11ac like power requeriments.

Anyone can help me with that?

Note: If 802.3af PoE is the source of power, the access point will dynamically shift from 4x4 to 3x3 and come up under PoE.

Hi Scott, thanks for ur answer but i just read the info that u send to me and its right about the 2 ways to power the 3702 but dont show info that i required like what if i power my 3702 with 802.3af what happen to the 802.11ac standar.. works or dosent? im a littlebit confuse maybe but i cant find the minimum requeriments to deploy 802.11ac like i say powered options or like a Q&A for deploying... If i powered the 3702 with af and change to MIMO 3x3 i understad that i cant reach 1.3gig but the 802-11ac still working? and another question 802.11ac have any limitations on security like onlky works with WPA2 or something?

It will work, but at 3x3... You will not get the full potential as if it was 4x4.

Your design missed the 3650/3850 link between the AP and the 5760.

If you are going to run 802.11ac then it won't work.

You will need either 3650 or 3850 if you want to do 802.11ac.  Let me explain:

1.  Current 802.11ac is called "wave 1".  What is the bandwidth a fully-compliant 802.11ac Wave 1 client can push?  Around 1.4 Gbps.  1.4 Gbps for a single client.  How do you expect to push 1.4 Gbps down a 1.0 Gbps ethernet cable between the AP and the switch?  Gets worst:  Let's presume that your immediate switch has 10 Gbps uplink to the core.  So, in theory, you put 9 APs on your switch and 9 802.11ac client and your uplink get saturated.

2.  This is where the 3650 and/or 3850 steps in.  Each switch has a built-in WLC inside.  You need directly connect the 3600 (with 802.11ac module) and/or 3700 to these switches.  Why?  Because the built-in WLC inside these switches will strip out all the CAPWAP headers between the AP and the 3650/3850. 

Ok, well maybe i dont explain very well my situation, but in my case the 5760 have 4 ports of 10gig each the primary and HA connected each to a 4507 so problem with troughput to the LAN i dont think that i have... about the interface on the 3702 the gigetehernet interface on the AP its because WLAN its halfduplex and in many ways a service on-demand cause u dont send or recive always u have to wait to send or recive and even if the giginterface was a trouble on the idea that u trasmit to me its problem of the technology not of the desing and this dosent get better if u have a 3850 or 3650 cause u still have 1gig interface in both in the sw and the AP... but thanks!

Hi Fernando,

To get the full benefit of Converged Access (CA) I would say you have to terminate CAPWAP on your access layer. In this way you can treat your wireless & wired traffic in the same way.(traffic management is key plus point in CA)

In CUWN network, all wireless traffic is CAPWAP from AP to WLC (vice versa) & any switches between WLC & AP does not get visibility of traffic going through.(one would argue going through a single point -WLC is good for troubleshooting, but it is a different point)

In your case what you are doing is CUWN, using 5760 as WLC. This will give higher bandwidth between your WLC & your distribution switch. If 8Gbps (in 5508) was the bottleneck now you moved it to somewhere else (access layer-distribution)

5760 <--40Gbps--> 4507 <--10Gbps --> Access SW <--1Gbps --> 3702 x N

If you thinking scalability perspective adding more & more 3702 (all traffic tunnel back to 5760 if you use CUWN) in the current scenario will add more burden to your network compare if you could terminate them on the access switch where AP connected. That's why it is recommended to have 3850/3650 at access layer acting as MA & while 5760 acting as MC at distribution layer if you want full fledge CA design.

Having said that, you can give 802.11ac service with your current setup. It will work. But from Cisco's design perspective it is good if you could terminate CAPWAP on access layer which give the full flexibility of Converged Access.
